“I remember looking forward to Hanukkah as a child, especially the traditional foods, gifts, and games,” says Dym. “And now, on behalf of the 655,000 men and women of the United States Postal Service, I am honored to participate in the unveiling of our new stamp celebrating this joyous Jewish holiday.”

Dym was the dedication officer for this year's dedication ceremony at Temple Emanu El in Ohio. She was joined at the ceremony by Susan Krantz, president of the temple Emanu El; Rabbi Matt Cohen; Jeanette Kuvin Oren, a stamp designer and artist; Kathy Mulcahy, mayor of Orange Village, Ohio; And Darcy Hershey, the congregation and administrative assistant to Emanu El at the temple.

The artistic design of the stamp is derived from an original wall hanging. It is hand dyed, appliqued and quilted to form an abstract image of the menorah. Blue and purple represent the sky, green and brown the earth. Bright yellow and orange represent the festival of Lights.
